Hello!

light  •  nature  •  simple pleasures in life

Things I enjoy sharing in my images at the light outside photography.

Beauty – and otherwise – in the quiet of the every day.

I grew up in North Yorkshire close to the Yorkshire Dales.

I’m drawn to nature and natural processes: water forms; geology; how the land lies and how it recolonises after people have turned away from it; and the lives of the people who live and work close to nature still. Pattern and abstraction is something you’ll find too – honing in on that which often goes unseen. Being in nature is restorative for me and I aim to capture something of this in my work.

Previously official photographer for The Settle-Carlisle Railway Company – this was a delight for me, as I find much to inspire up in the fells and dales of Yorkshire & Cumbria. I have a particular interest in remote and beautiful Dentdale. After going to Appleby Horse Fair for many years I’ve become very interested in Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people: their heritage, culture, and contemporary lives and challenges in the modern world today.

In 2017 I was honoured to receive a Martin Parr award for my work during Hull’s 2017 City of Culture celebrations, and in 2019 I was thrilled to be a winning finalist in the International Bird Photographer of the Year Awards.
